If you are having trouble searching, the following guidelines may help you find what you were looking for:
- Try to search only for keywords.
- Avoid searching for full sentences or questions.
- Do not use common words (such as and, or, the, etc.) in the search field.
For example, if you are trying to find information on how to connect to a printer in a campus computer lab. Do not search for "How do I connect my computer to a printer on campus?" Instead search for keywords such as "campus printer" or "connecting to campus printers". Keyword searches are more likely to take you to helpful articles.
If you are looking for general information on a specific service, just type the connection type in the search field. Searching for xDSL will bring you to a list of all articles related to that service.
Using the Advanced SearchThe advanced search option allows you to narrow your search by category, operating system or connection type. To search using the advanced search, first type the keywords that you are looking for into the search field. Next check the boxes next to the catagories you wish to search in. Finally click the Search button, to activate your search and view the results.
For example, if you want to setup your MacBook for ResNet service, you could go to the advanced search page and enter "ResNet" into the search field. By selecting OS X from the Operating Systems menu and then searching, you will be taken only to articles with the keyword ResNet that also apply to OS X.
Also, you could use the advance search menu to view all of the articles in a specific category. To do this select the category that you wish to view, and leaving the search field blank, click on the search button. Your results list will include all articles in that specific category. This can also be used to view all articles in multiple categories.
For example, if you are interested in learning more about the bandwidth limit, you can view all articles in the category bandwidth, by checking the bandwidth box and clicking the Search button. The results list will show you all the related articles, including articles explaining why there is a limit, what the limit is, and the disciplinary process associated with it.
Searching Other DepartmentsWe couldn't find anything for Category. Don't worry, there's several things to try to find what you're looking for: * Use fewer search terms. The more words you type in the search box, the more restrictive your search becomes. Make your query more general by removing one or more terms and try again. * Check your spelling. Did you make a mistake? The Knowledge Base tries to account for spelling errors but it still might help to check your search terms. * Use a different search method. The Advanced search lets you browse specific categories and other properties of our articles without even providing any search terms, which can be helpful if you're not sure exactly what to search for. Maybe the article you're looking for is actually provided by another department? Try Search other departments to find out.
