General Description

This article explains how to change permissions for all files on your Purdue web page so that anyone can view them, using SecureCRT.

Step by Step Instructions

SecureCRT can be accessed on all ITaP lab computers under Start > Programs > Standard Software > Telecommunications > SecureCRT 5.1. You can also download it for free on the ITaP Downloads page at http://www.itap.purdue.edu/security/download.

1. Open the SecureCRT client and click the Quick Connect icon.

2. In the Quick Connect window, fill in the following:

  • Protocol: SSH2
  • Hostname: expert.ics.purdue.edu or picket.ics.purdue.edu
  • Port: 22
  • Firewall: None
  • Username: enter your Purdue username

3. If a New Host Key window appears, click Accept & Save.

4. Enter your Purdue password.

5. At the prompt, type "webfix".

6. When a new command line appears, your permissions have been fixed and you can exit the program.

Troubleshooting

  • SecureCRT can be found on the ITaP Downloads page at: http://www.itap.purdue.edu/security/download
  • The file index.html must be located in your directory WWW file.
  • If webfix does not work, try typing "chmod -R go rx www" at the prompt.
